I must understand that spiritual maturity requires formation. I need biblical teaching, godly examples, correction, practical experience and meaningful relationships with other believers.
In 1 Corinthians 4:15โ16, Paul describes the importance of spiritual fathering. Christian growth involves more than receiving information; it also involves being formed through godly example and investment.
What Healthy Mentorship Involves
Teaching: I need help understanding and applying Scripture.
Example: I learn by observing how mature believers live.
Encouragement: I need support as I develop.
Correction: I must recognise mistakes and make changes.
Opportunity: I need practical opportunities to serve and improve.
Accountability: Honest conversations can help me remain faithful to my commitments.
Spiritual Authority Must Point Me to Christ
Healthy mentorship should help me follow Christ more faithfully, not make me dependent on a human leader. I can respect leaders while remaining grounded in Scripture and taking personal responsibility for my relationship with God.
Paul said, โBe ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christโ (1 Corinthians 11:1, KJV).
My Reflection
Am I teachable? Do I receive correction without becoming defensive? Am I using what I learn to help others?
I will remain teachable, apply what I learn and help others grow.
