Moving Members Into Sons: Why Church Attendance Alone Is Not Enough

There is a question I believe every Christian must ask: Am I simply attending church, or am I growing into someone who can take responsibility for the work of God?

I can attend church every Sunday, listen to sermons, receive prayer and enjoy fellowship. All these things are valuable. But my spiritual growth must go beyond showing up.

The local church is not simply a place where I come to receive. It is a body in which I must grow, discover my gifts and learn to contribute.

Growing Beyond Attendance

Ephesians 4:12โ€“13 teaches that ministry equips believers for service and builds up the body of Christ towards maturity. I must not expect a few ministers to do everything while I remain a spectator.

I must ask myself: Am I growing in the Word? Am I becoming more faithful in prayer? Am I learning to care for others? Am I willing to serve when there is a need?

What Does Moving Members Into Sons Mean?

Every believer is a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:26). My relationship with God is not earned by serving a pastor or proving loyalty to a congregation. In this teaching, โ€œmoving members into sonsโ€ means helping believers grow in Christlike character, take appropriate responsibility and become equipped to serve others. The word sons includes men and women.

My Personal Reflection

I must stop measuring my spiritual life only by how many services I attend. I must also examine what is changing in me. Am I becoming more patient, dependable and willing to serve?

I want to be more than a regular attendee. I want to be a growing disciple of Jesus Christ. I want my presence in the house to contribute to its spiritual health.

I will not only show up. I will grow in Christ and learn to serve faithfully.

Questions for Reflection

  1. Am I growing spiritually, or am I simply maintaining a routine?
  2. What have I received from my local church that I can use to strengthen others?
  3. What practical step can I take this week?

Scripture: Ephesians 4:12โ€“16; Galatians 3:26.

At BCICHURCH, I want to grow in Christ, serve faithfully and help others grow.
