You were created for a reason. Discover how understanding the spiritual side of life can help you find direction, grow in faith, and live with purpose.
Life in Harare moves quickly. People wake up early to go to work, run businesses, attend school, care for their families, and pursue their dreams. Yet beneath the daily responsibilities, many people carry questions they rarely talk about: Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life? How can I know what God wants me to do?
This is where the Life Is Spiritual Series begins. At Body of Christ International Church (BCICHURCH), we believe that understanding life through the Word of God helps us approach everyday experiences with greater wisdom, faith, and purpose. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Start by opening your heart to God’s Word and taking one faithful step at a time.
1. Life Is More Than What We See
2 Corinthians 4:18 (KJV) reminds us to look beyond the things that are seen, because visible things are temporary while unseen things are eternal.
Our work, finances, qualifications, and achievements matter, but they don’t answer every question about life. You can be making progress and still be searching for direction. This doesn’t mean every difficulty is caused by a spiritual problem. It means we shouldn’t ignore our spiritual lives while trying to improve everything else.
Try this: Before an important decision, take time to pray, read Scripture, examine your motives, and seek wise counsel. Ask yourself: Do my choices reflect biblical values? Am I growing in love, wisdom, patience, and faith?
2. Discover Purpose One Step at a Time
Psalm 139:14 says, โI will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully madeโ (KJV). Your worth isn’t determined by your salary, education, family circumstances, or how far you believe you’ve progressed.
Ephesians 2:10 teaches that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Purpose is not only about becoming known or achieving something impressive. It also means knowing God and using your gifts to serve others.
- What burden is on your heart? Pay attention to the needs that move you to pray, care, or act.
- What gifts can you use? You may be able to teach, encourage, organise, lead, create, or care for people.
- What is the right step for this season? Don’t overlook today’s opportunity while waiting for the whole future to become clear.
Proverbs 3:5โ6 encourages us to trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him in all our ways. You may not know every detail of tomorrow, but you can take a wise step today.
3. Build Practical Spiritual Habits
James 1:22 teaches us to be doers of the Word, not hearers only. What we learn from Scripture should shape the way we live.
Make room for prayer
Start with ten to fifteen minutes if you’re building consistency. Speak honestly to God, give thanks, bring your concerns to Him, and ask for guidance.
Read the Bible with a purpose
Read a short passage such as Psalm 139, Ephesians 2, or Proverbs 3. Write down one lesson and one action you can take in response.
Practise what you learn
If you’re learning about forgiveness, take a step towards letting go of bitterness. If you’re learning about love, find a practical way to serve someone. Faith should influence our everyday actions.
Review your growth without condemning yourself
At the end of the day, ask: What did I learn? Where did I struggle? What can I practise tomorrow? The goal is to become more aware, teachable, and intentional.
4. You Were Not Designed to Grow Alone
Hebrews 10:24โ25 encourages believers to consider one another, stir one another to love and good works, and not neglect gathering together. Personal prayer and Bible study are essential, and healthy Christian community can help us keep growing.
A church community can offer biblical teaching, prayer, fellowship, accountability, and opportunities to serve. Look for a place where Scripture is taught faithfully, people are treated with dignity, sincere questions are welcome, and spiritual growth is taken seriously. You don’t need to arrive with a perfect life. Come ready to learn and grow.
5. Let Faith Shape Everyday Life in Harare
Spiritual growth happens in ordinary situations: telling the truth when dishonesty seems profitable, responding patiently under pressure, treating people fairly, caring for family, and making wise decisions when money is tight.
Jesus teaches in Mark 12:30โ31 that we should love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbour as ourselves. Love God wholeheartedly. Love people sincerely. Let your faith influence your actions at home, at work, in business, at school, and throughout your community.
6. A Seven-Day Next-Step Challenge
- Day 1: Read Psalm 139 and reflect on your value before God.
- Day 2: Write down three things you care deeply about. Pray about how you can use them to serve others.
- Day 3: Set aside 15 minutes for prayer without distractions.
- Day 4: Read Ephesians 2:1โ10 and write down one lesson.
- Day 5: Do one intentional act of kindness.
- Day 6: Contact a trusted Christian friend or ask about a Bible study or prayer gathering.
- Day 7: Review what you learned and choose one habit to continue.
This isn’t a way to earn God’s love. It’s an opportunity to become more intentional about your relationship with Him. Begin with one faithful action and keep going.
