Gathering with the church matters, but Christian growth was never meant to be limited to one service each week. Jesus calls people to follow Him in ordinary life: at home, at work, at school, in relationships and in private decisions.
In Matthew 28:19โ20, Jesus commands His disciples to teach others to observe all that He commanded. Discipleship is not simply knowing Christian language. It is learning Christโs way and putting His teaching into practice.
1. Carry the Word into your week
After a service, identify one truth from the message and one action it requires. If the teaching was about forgiveness, take a step towards peace. If it was about generosity, look for a practical way to help. If it challenged your speech, practise speaking with grace. A message becomes fruitful when it shapes decisions.
2. Develop a personal walk with God
Attend church, but also pray and read Scripture privately. Jesus described the importance of abiding in Him in John 15. Personal devotion keeps your relationship with God from becoming dependent only on the atmosphere of a meeting or the strength of another personโs faith.
3. Grow through honest fellowship
Christian maturity is not a solo project. Participate in your Cell Group, ask questions, share testimonies and allow trusted believers to encourage you. Healthy fellowship should lead people towards Christ, truth, accountability and loveโnot gossip or control.
4. Find a place to serve
Look beyond the question, โWhat can I receive?โ and also ask, โWhom can I strengthen?โ You may help with practical tasks, pray for others, visit someone who is struggling or use your skills to support ministry. Service should be willing and responsible, not forced by shame.
5. Let your character show your growth
Galatians 5:22โ23 describes the fruit of the Spirit. Patience, kindness, faithfulness and self-control are evidence of growth in everyday situations. A person can be active in church and still need to grow in how they treat people at home. Invite God to work on both public service and private character.
A simple weekly discipleship plan
- Read Scripture and pray on a regular schedule.
- Write down one lesson from Sunday and practise it.
- Connect meaningfully with your Cell Group.
- Encourage or serve one person.
- Review the week honestly and ask God for help to grow.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me to follow You every day. Let Your Word shape my choices, my relationships and my service. Help me grow in love, truth and faithfulness. Amen.
Take action: Choose one teaching you have heard recently and put it into practice before the week ends.
