THE FIRE DISCIPLE โ SEASON 1: IDENTITY & FOUNDATION
Lesson 6: The Meaning and Significance of Water Baptism
Jesus commanded His disciples to make disciples and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19). Baptism is not a religious performance. It is a public response of faith and obedience.
Romans 6:4 connects baptism with the death and resurrection of Christ: “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead… even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Going under the water pictures burial. Coming up pictures new life. Baptism doesn’t mean the water itself saves us. Our salvation is through Christ. Baptism gives visible expression to an inward faith.
Don’t treat baptism casually
If you have believed in Christ but have never followed Him in baptism, study what Scripture teaches and speak with your church leaders. Obedience matters. Baptism also reminds the believer that following Jesus is public, not hidden.
