Overcoming Fear Through Faith

By Levi Mahemu | BCICHURCH

Fear can affect our decisions. We may fear failure, rejection, the future or disappointing people we love. Scripture does not teach us to deny every feeling of fear. It points us towards God and helps us respond with trust and wisdom.

โ€œWhat time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.โ€ โ€” Psalm 56:3 (KJV)

Bring your fear to God

The psalmist acknowledges fear and chooses to turn towards God. You can do the same. Tell God what concerns you, and ask Him for courage and wisdom.

Separate facts from assumptions

Fear can grow when we treat the worst possible outcome as if it has already happened. Write down what you know, what you are assuming and what practical steps are available. This can help you respond more clearly.

Act with courage and care

Courage does not mean being reckless. It means doing what is right even when you feel uncomfortable. Prepare, ask for advice or take the next responsible step rather than allowing fear to make every decision.

Use the support around you

Prayer and Christian fellowship can remind you that you are not alone. If fear is persistent or seriously affecting daily life, speaking with a qualified mental health professional can also be wise.

  1. Name the fear you are facing.
  2. Pray using Psalm 56:3.
  3. Identify one action within your control.
  4. Ask a trustworthy person for support.

Faith is not a guarantee that we will never feel afraid. It is a choice to seek God and act wisely even when fear is present.
