One of the questions I hear from believers is, “How do I know if God is speaking to me?” It is a serious question because we don’t want to confuse God’s voice with our emotions, fears or desires.
God still speaks. The question is whether we are learning to recognize His voice and test what we hear against His Word.
God speaks through His Word
The Bible is our first measure. God will never lead you in a direction that contradicts Scripture. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 KJV.
If a voice tells you to do what God has already called sin, don’t call it God’s voice.
God speaks by the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit leads believers. Romans 8:14 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
Sometimes the leading is a strong conviction. Sometimes it is a Scripture that becomes alive in your heart. Sometimes God uses wise counsel, circumstances or a deep inner peace. But every leading must be tested.
Don’t confuse urgency with God’s voice
Fear often shouts. Pressure pushes. God can speak firmly, but His leading doesn’t need manipulation. Learn to slow down and pray.
Ask, “Lord, is this You? Does this agree with Your Word? What fruit will this produce?” Give yourself time to listen.
Grow in spiritual sensitivity
A person who spends little time with God will struggle to recognize His voice. Prayer, Scripture, worship and fellowship train your spiritual ears.
At BCICHURCH, we don’t want people who only know how to shout in church. We want people who know God personally and can follow His direction.
Test what you hear
1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” Don’t build your life on one impression. Test it with Scripture, prayer, godly counsel and the fruit it produces.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, teach me to hear and recognize the voice of God. Give me wisdom to test what I hear and courage to obey when You lead me. Let Your Word be the foundation of my decisions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Child of Fire, don’t chase voices. Know the Word and follow Jesus.
